Purchased RPLIDAR A1 M8 from Revain in USA on 21st April. Unpacked and checked today, connected to a PC, started scanning and transferred data to a PC. But after five minutes of operation, the device stopped and does not work. I contacted SlamTech, the manufacturer. The manufacturer advised to contact Amazon for after-sales service. Autonomous Sensor Robot Phenomena!

Phenomenal sensor for your autonomous robot! You must be able to program to use it. It includes a bit of sample code for C. It's an old design, but works exceptionally well indoors. I have verified that the maximum range outdoors at night is around 16,000 mm (52 ft) (ideal conditions). Indoors, it works easily up to 8000mm/26ft. Good for me (noob) Good for motion detectors

Works immediately after installation. This is my first LiDAR and the cheaper counterpart to the A2M8 that I may end up using for my current project. I had no operational problems when I learned the ins and outs of ROS. Mechanical work makes a weird humming noise, similar to grinding, and that's my main drawback. Pros: Cheap setup libraries and support for projects using Python, ROS Lidar on the ground as the attached cable supports the weight causing the LiDAR to tilt. Maybe it doesn't matter…
