Works well but almost impossible to read in the sun. I installed it on my boat so no sun is an option. You will need to use a coaxial cable (the cheapest you can find) for the wire from the spark plug.

This item was unusable because I could not read the RPM or hours on it due to insufficient lighting. He had to be at eye level to read it. So if it was mounted in the center of the windshield it might be useful. Otherwise it was useless.

The first one out of the box showed zero hours and revolutions. The initial connection and RPM went up to 3090 while the machine was running at 3600. The display got stuck at 3090 and didn't change anymore while the clock never showed any usage. The backlight worked. I replaced it with a new one but this one never changed from scratch and the backlight didn't work at all. I'll have to try again as I've already cut a hole for it in the dashboard.

I basically wanted a reliable hour meter, the tachometer and lighting are a bonus. extra spark), but it only seems accurate at low speeds. I installed it on my Miller Big 20 welding machine with a 4 cylinder Continental engine. I could not get this unit to read the correct RPMs and this caused my car to misfire on the connector wire I had the sensor wire wrapped around. I followed the instructions for the tee. It is extremely accurate in terms of RPM and the total clock and hour function is good. When switched off, the maximum speed of the last work cycle is displayed. A little hard to read depending on mounting - a function of polarizing lens and viewing angle. I think it could be optimized a bit. If it were still running I would launch it four times and the only downside was the viewing angle issue. Since it's "frozen" and showing hours and RPMs that never change, I'm downgrading it to two stars.

If the manufacturer made similar general purpose counters I would decorate my panel with these counters, the perfect replacement for the old analogue meter slots. The sensor wire wasn't long enough for my application, decided to solder a different length.
