I have used this product to make some new chair seats that I am remodeling. The grinder worked great at rounding the edges and I was able to clamp two at a time to get the same shape for all 5. At first I lost power by pressing the grinding wheel too hard, but once I learned to let the tool do the work, everything worked out great. This tool is ideal for hobbyists.
After reading many reviews on all types of grinders like this one, I decided to stick with this brand. Ryobi isn't the leader in their tools, but I'm not the best handyman, so that price combined with the work makes it perfect for me. I just put together my first set of cabinets and have used this grinder in a number of ways to get the finished product. Runs smoothly and grinds well. It's heavy so I wouldn't buy it for your grandma unless she's healthy.
Worked on my projects. Only 1/2 HP. Fairly easy to stall under a decent load. I use it for metal work. I had to create a stronger stand to lean large pieces of metal against with a belt. One that didn't flex, unlike the 3/32 or so it came with. The disc sanding plate continued to loosen and wobble under light stress. I had to use heavy duty Loctite to keep the screw from flying out. I've been using it pretty rigorously for a year. The hardware that stabilizes the belt sander is now loose…
