As new homeowners we needed a good power drill that we could use for very simple things like hanging curtains, towel rails and so on. My brother (who is a professional contractor) recommended Ryobi as very easy to drill but reliable. I am very happy with this set! The drill's battery life is excellent and I appreciate that it comes with a set of bits. We have everything that is needed for our purpose.
This is what you need from a reliable and reputable brand. Ryobi tend to keep their distance, and their cut-and-swappable portable battery system is heaven. Sure, it's going to be a bit like the Apple ecosystem you're stuck in (or like Canon/Nikon), but you get a great kit with all the basics to get most things done. It's worth the simple investment and you'll use it more than you expect.
If you're moving into a new apartment, townhouse or new home and don't have a quality tool kit, this bag is a no-brainer. A quality drill that has helped me install various projector shelves/mounts and assemble furniture. Most will say that Dewalt is the more well-known brand, but Ryobi is what 98% of people need. The only thing I would like, but later added, is a laser level and a nail finder (judge me what you will, I won't risk it in an apartment).
