Item appears normal and "tried" to work when connected. Unfortunately it does not work with XP 64. Pro and HP Laserjet 5P. Everything is fine with the printer, everything is fine with the computer. It was just an AMD 2+ 64 build from years ago that didn't run parallel ports. I've tried other cables that just lay there without even registering. So it was an "improvement" in that regard. First, although I couldn't figure it out from the tech notes, the cord is 6 feet long. Plus since an ad says it's only 1 foot long. Second, I have three old HP LaserJet printers - one 4MP and two 5MP - each with at least two toner cartridges. Workhorses, ideal for black and white printing of manuals and other documents.
