Almost there, but not there yet.

Had to return it, almost arrived but not yet. I like what Sabrent is trying to achieve. But after testing on Blackmagic Disk Test. Read speed 1800 Mb/s, write speed 2600 Mb/s. But when used as an edit/empty drive it was inconsistent. Running the drive test in edit/idle mode returned only 740MB/s read and 450MB/s write, both when editing via fcp and when the drive was just idle. Not sure if this is a safe mode to keep the drive cool or if my block was just bad (block gets very hot). Still, I'd…

Pros
  • Very impressive

It doesn't work, the support team didn't help much.

I am currently using Sabrent but will most likely have to return the device. It goes on and off on my Macs every time I transfer more than a few hundred GB to or from it. UPDATE - The drive was no longer constantly being unmounted and not even mounted on multiple Macs. Even on Windows, the Sabrent software was able to recognize the case, but not the SSD itself. Looks like it blew up in just a few days. I come back. DO NOT BUY. Note that the 8TB drive turned out to be what was in the 4TB box…

Amazing performance but hot enough to burn your skin

From gaming to storing large files at high speeds, it's all you need! You need Thunderbolt 3 as a requirement as it is not compatible with any other port type. This is the fastest mass production technology available in the current rotation. This device offers all fronts, allowing you to move around the available Steam library without taking up internal storage. This allows for a smaller memory configuration on a MacBook Pro. Be aware of its shortcomings! It's getting hot. No matter what harsh…

It's fast, but keep your expectations in check.

So I bought this product and paired it with my 2019 Macbook Pro, my 5TB Western Digital hard drive, my 1TB G-Drive SSD and my 1TB Used Sandisk Extreme SSD. The Sabrent XTRM is exactly that (extremely fast). I have the 1TB option because I don't use it for storage (BUT THERE IS SPACE IN CASE), I use it to speed up my editing and file transfer workflow. Well, this product is lightning fast, but you need to keep your expectations in check as its speed will vary depending on the other product it is

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • Good but not great

Unable to reach advertised speeds and severe throttling issues

I was very excited to be able to buy the 8TB version a couple of weeks ago in the great hope that it would be the answer to storage size would. necessary. I have a 16-inch MacBook Pro with the fastest i9 processor, 64GB of RAM and 8TB of ultra-fast internal storage, but I constantly need more storage on long shoots. When I received the Rocket, I immediately plugged it in and ran a speed test. As a result, the maximum read or write speed was 1800 MB/s. It's clearly not the claimed 2700 MB/s, but

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • No instructions

Update: Sabrent came via

I think the only honest way to edit a review if the original review itself is correct is to add it, not replace it. To that end, the original title of this review read: "The movement took two hours in all; will no longer be recognized by any computer." Full text is below after update. UPDATE: I got a call from Sabrent. They made a generous gesture of goodwill and arranged to have the failed drive shipped to them overnight with it the issue was analyzed and a replacement shipped to me.As an…
