The car antenna is fixed on the rear window. This is great for a roadside antenna, picking up UHF/VHF from fairly long distances and across mountain canyons from the nearest relay tower. I recommend this as a de facto replacement for the standard Bearcat telescopic antenna, in a car or indoors.

I bought this to use with a scanner at home. I used the standard telescopic antenna attached to the unit. I installed this antenna in the top corner of a window on the east side of my house where I usually sit. This greatly improved reception. I'm sure if it was convenient to put it by a west-facing window it would be even better because the repeaters are west-facing. But for a simple, inexpensive boost, it works very well.

I bought this antenna to use in my parents upright position while I work in their house and do court cases. For this price I didn't expect much. I set it up, hooked up my Uniden BC125AT and was blown away by how well and how much it picks up. It is better than the stock antenna or whip antenna in the car. In terms of performance, it's almost on par with my Di-Pole Tri-Ban that my dad had. I plan to buy another one or two for my cars back home. I highly recommend this antenna.

Works well. Doesn't seem to work any better than a standard rubber antenna. Doesn't work as well as my tram through a glass antenna. Give it a try, you might like it, but don't expect much. Any antenna with a non-RF receiving element will outperform this one, but it will likely have a place in your cabin.
