Disappointed: Hammers

I gave this unit a higher rating than I got because I was pleased it had other caps. However, after a while I noticed that when using a hammer, the caps come loose. At first I thought I might not have tightened them tight enough, but after a few tugs they loosened up. You keep turning the hammer, it's very frustrating.

Add some ribbon to the threads!

This hammer is the right size and weight for me. Wrap Teflon tape around the threads before attaching the head. This prevents the threaded ring from loosening. You'll have to experiment with how many {how many turns} of tape to use. a little, and this does not prevent the head from coming off. You may need to add more ribbon after changing the head a few times because the ribbon wears out after a while. All in all a good hammer at a good price.

It may dent if it's clay!

This is a cheap tool. The wood is too light to withstand any force required to create the slightest texture, the tips are unreliable and likely cannot withstand the force required to texturize even the thinnest metal. You will definitely get what you pay for. If you're looking for a real metal texturing tool, spend the extra money and invest in one with a weight that won't break or fall apart after a hit.

Pros
  • Ball hammers
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Need a better pen

This is a good plan but badly constructed. The hammer needs to be strong, and to use textures you need to use force. The handle is too brittle to withstand real work and the soft wood made the head slip off during the second hammering session. I dug copper that was hot and relatively soft, so I don't think that should happen. Save money and buy something stronger. Patterned heads are nice, with deep cuts - I don't think they wear out even with prolonged use. The device easily replaces stencil…

Add some ribbon to the threads!

This hammer is the right size and weight for me. This requires wrapping Teflon tape around the threads before attaching the head. This prevented the threaded ring from loosening. Start the collar a little, and it won't stop the head from loosening. You may need to add more tape after changing the head several times, because the tape will wear out after a while. Overall this is a good hammer and a good price.
