I'm only giving it a 4/5 because it doesn't last.

I'm only giving this one a 4/5 because it doesn't keep the water at the guaranteed 7.0 ph. My pH is around 7.4-7.5 which is not unacceptable for a betta. A little goes a long way, which I appreciate.

Really good conditioner!

I love every Seachem product and was so excited to hear Betta Water Conditioner existed! I have 12 bettas and use these for all. Everyone is super healthy and happy. The only downside is that it takes a cap per gallon to purify tap water. But if you only had a chicken or two, that would last a very long time. I definitely recommend this product to all Betta owners!

Pros
  • Free for Educational Purposes
Cons
  • Useless Features

Don't waste your money

I bought it based on reviews. 1 day after the water change, the water became thick like floating white goo and my fish became very inactive. He seemed to stay up and breathe. I went back to the Aqueon Betta Bowl plus conditioner and had no issues with fish burn reading previous reviews. The fish shop said this is only done by using lots of water conditioner depending on the amount of water.

Betta Basics - Fish & Aquatic Pets

Betta Basics is a great product when trying to dechlorinate a small amount of water that also contains live plants. It's not as concentrated as Seachem's other dechlor, Prime, so it's usually ideal for Betta aquariums. It tracks pH very well in the ideal range (my water was above 7.0 the entire time I was using Betta Basics after a water change) for men. Would definitely buy again and recommend to anyone with a small Betta environment.

Leaves a white film and film

Leaves a white film over the intestines and an iridescent film on the water surface. I've noticed that I don't have to clean the whole system that often because the coating and deposits get in the way. I have a single Betta with a system where water is poured in and it is filtered through stones and ditties are poured through a pipe. I have also not noticed any more plants since using this brand, mineral deposits on cups and jugs I use to soften and replace water. I would recommend another…

pH stabilizes at 7.4 instead of 7.0

This product appears to adjust the pH to 7.4 instead of 7.0 as advertised. The amount of dosage per gallon is huge. You need to use about 1/3 cup Betta Basics per 5 gallons. You will burn off this material very quickly compared to Seachem Prime which only requires a few drops. I tried using this product to lower the pH from 7.8 to 7.0. After 1 dose, my pH stabilized at 7.4; after 3 more doses it was still at pH 7.4. My water isn't that hard so this product should have had no problem buffering…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Do not buy. Buy Seachem Prime instead.

I'm so annoyed. I bought this in mid-January because Seachem Prime was outrageously expensive at the time. I figured if I ran out of a small bottle I could switch to this one. I've been using Prime for over 15 years? never a problem It's disgusting. I used it in my quarantine aquarium. I'm so upset Cloudy at the moment. White film on all my plants and filter sponge. I waited 24 hours to see what happened to him. A few hours later still no change. I decided to go to petco and pay for another…
