Quiet drive good for data storage

This drive is very quiet. I was a little apprehensive about buying a refurbished drive, but it's been running very quietly for a few months now, so I'm glad I took the chance.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Frequency

Worked as expected except it failed after only 10 months.

Bought back in September. Up until the last few days, it worked as you would expect from a new hard drive. All of a sudden it started making clicking noises and I got major crashes due to programs running on the drive and the drive is totally inaccessible this morning and HD Tune Pro reads very few sectors it can access than bad. The hard drive, nor the tower in which it is installed, has been moved since installation. So it is unlikely that the damage is caused by some external factors…

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Not sure

I needed to fix a home server project that had some broken hardware. Halfway through the project I discovered that one of the hard drives had failed. Luckily this drive is the exact same model number and I was able to restore the mirror with no problems and it looks like the drive never failed. Recommendation: buy.

Pros
  • Looking forward to
Cons
  • I'll add later

From time to time I hear him turning, but not loud. It's 5400 rpm but with a decent cache that's fine for most of my games. Instead, all large or intense games go to the SSD. The capacity was 3.7TB which was more than I expected, there is always a slight loss due to the way it is measured etc. I always make a point of not buying used drives of any kind, but for the price it was worth the risk. If that fails, it's just a few games that store user data in the cloud, so there's no risk of loss at…

Pros
  • The best in its niche

1 of 4 drives failed in 6 months, 2 more in 18 months

Bought 4 of them about 6 months ago, one already reports several hundred reallocated sectors. Be careful! EDIT: 2 more of them failed this week, about 18 months after purchase.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Socket required

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks

I know nothing about computers except how to turn them on and off and how to change ink cartridges. They would never call me to help you troubleshoot your desktop or laptop. But replacing the hard drive was surprisingly easy and my 10 year old Dell Inspiron is working again. So you don't have to be a rocket scientist. You just have to watch a few YouTube videos to get you started in the right direction.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Like that

Not good for Mac!: Computers and Accessories

This is an internal drive, but I bought an external case. I formatted it on Mac and PC and even on PC it still shows 800GB. Will not read 3TB even after formatting on a PC. The seller explained that you would need a PC and a SATA to USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure, but I can't get it to work. They offered a refund, not sure if I will do it again or not. Even with great computer skills, I've never had this problem and can't figure it out. The drive is marked 3TB, I have never seen or heard of this…

2TB+ not recognized and driver installation not working

Background: I had the same model from 2016 (purchased new) and it worked really well, so I bought another one as it was cheaper than other options, and I didn't need high write speeds. I connected this disk to an external disk adapter and initialized it as GPT (MBR only recognizes up to 2TB) and Disk Management only saw 1.6TB. Knowing about this issue (because I had one), I installed Seagate's Extended Capacity Manager, which actually unlocks the rest of the drive. After installing all required

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
