I needed a backup drive for all my video files as my old 1TB drive was full. I bought this drive because it had the lowest percentage of bad reviews about a drive failing as it was my #1 problem. Most of the bad reviews concerned the low transfer speed. I paid an extra $3 to get silver over black thinking it would have more metal in it, which it does. Silver is an aluminum pad on the disc. HD is used to consolidate files to keep them organized. Transferring data, no longer responding. There seems to be a problem with the adapter card connected to the HD - just holding the cable like that spins the drive up. Tried several cables. The saving grace is that I can restore the HD by inserting it into an HD reader. The support options suck - just remove the adapter - but they want to send the whole drive back. I bought this to use with my Xbox One S. It was just as described. Arrived quickly. It was easy to set up for use. Just plug it in and press format. The games run perfectly. No lags or dropped frames. It writes fairly quickly so I don't have to wait long for the game to load. It doesn't take up much space and is powered by the USB connection to the Xbox. So that's a plus that I don't have to find extra space on my surge protector. So far this is exactly what I need.

I've had this drive for two weeks now and don't need it as it is designed to recover my files in the event of a catastrophic failure. Well it's on my computer doing its thing and hopefully I won't need it but if it does I really hope it pulls through. The included backup software is fine, but only seems to work with this drive. I cannot back up other drives to other locations.

I have several Seagate hard drives - desktop and portable. In general I was very satisfied. However, that drive failed - it was 100% unreliable and is now completely useless. I had to reformat the drive at least 4 times and now even reformatting doesn't help. I highly recommend this disc as a paperweight! I don't know if the newer versions are better. Huge disappointment from Seagate.

I have two of these at home and at my dacha (where I work during the pandemic). I use them with my MacBook Pro. Each site uses an Apple TimeMachine drive with hourly incremental backups. The second device in each household is used for nightly Carbon Copy Cloner backups. Of course, everything is also backed up to my 10TB iCould storage and Microsoft OneDrive. So far all four of these drives are very reliable. I had older smaller versions (2TB) that worked for years. I also have a 5 TB version.

As a Mac Time Machine user, I'm familiar with all of Seagate's proprietary installer software, which requires an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription for Photos, completely do not care storage. Huge problem. I ended up having to erase the drive and reformat it using Apple's Disk Utility. Plus it's great value for money.
