Bought specifically for heat shrink and solder based shrink butt connectors. It works great but the only complaint is that the plastic chin hinge will fall off easily otherwise it works great.

Thing barely gets hot enough to shrink the wiring! It will not melt solder in heat shrink connectors. Even using a deflector doesn't heat up enough to melt it. The hair dryer works best on high heat with a low fan. Cheaply made, folding stand keeps falling off! Save money and use a hair dryer!

Plastic feels a bit brittle, built in stand feels like it will snap instantly, cable feels flimsy and could (probably) cause a short. The performance is great and frankly the weight makes it feel like a quality tool, the included heat shield is the perfect shape for my purpose. I would say this is a great buy for the price.

I first bought it to heat butt seams which it does very well. I don't like using a heat shield, it just gets in the way. I know many others have had issues with this heat gun but my experience has been very positive. I also used this to work with a cellphone to detach the screen and it did the job perfectly, especially given the light weight.

I received the heat gun today, tried it for the first time and damn it, the heating element gets hot! The problem is that the fan won't turn on. As a result, this little piece of plastic is trying to melt in less than a minute. It ends up smoking within seconds of turning it on. I have contacted the company to inquire about a replacement, I hope they rectify the situation.
