Makes the task of hand sewing more difficult

When using these so-called innovative needles, the hook that allows the needles to thread the thread themselves gets caught in the fabric every time. I've used them on cotton, linen and knit fabrics with the same annoying results. Eventually, the hook caught the fabric, twisted, and came loose. I ended up having to use tweezers and a magnifying glass to remove the broken piece of tissue.

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Functionality

I bought them to make threading easier, I don't see as well as before. Every time I tried to sew, the thread slipped out of the needle, it was easy to thread, but not easy to keep the thread in. I have made a rug out of soft material, a patchwork rug, by sewing the back ends together and the point of the pin head just snapped off when I was using it so they are very brittle.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Nothing

Not what I have for lacing needles

I have used top thread needles and wanted to try side thread needles as I don't like the 'sharp' needle sensitivity. Needles for threading the upper thread. That's why I ordered them, as you can clearly see in the photos that they are threaded from the side. What I received were upper thread needles, the same ones I've used before. I was disappointed that I couldn't try the side threads and they were a lot more expensive than the top threads I already had. So it was a waste for me.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Only available in white

Disappointed with lacing needles

I wasn't a fan of these needles, they are not easy to thread, the thread does not go in the eye unless it is a 50 or 60 watt thread. It's even a challenge. I will keep working with them and maybe there is a trick or something I didn't understand. I'm a long sleeve quilter and use self threading needles to finish threads. I thought they were way better than the ones with the slit at the end of the eye. Not so. They are particularly disappointed with the price. Was willing to pay more for easeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Trial for a year
Cons
  • not reliable

DO NOT buy these needles - they break easily!

Nobody warned me that they were very difficult to use. I used a medium size and tried to push it through two layers with finger force and the top came off! Seriously, if it doesn't take the slightest strain, I'll never buy it again! Also, the edge inside the threaded side piece can easily damage the threads. I used Durafil but went to Coates and Clark because it kept tearing. Terrible product, in hindsight, even if it made threading easier, at least I don't break the needle with a littleโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Light thread needle
Cons
  • Only available in black

Ideal for threading a quilt

These needles are very handy for burying the thread ends after machine quilting and I always have a pack with me. Very short ends (one inch) that cannot be easily threaded through a regular needle can be loaded into the senche with tweezers if necessary. Sometimes the open eyelet gets stuck in the fabric thread and needs to be broken to remove it (using needle-nosed pliers can easily break the eyelet). I wouldn't recommend it for hand sewing. For those with vision problems, an embroidery needle

Pros
  • Golden eye to tell if you have poor eyesight
Cons
  • Some little things

Works but could be improved.

Note that the gap in the eye of the needle (to facilitate threading) can sometimes catch on lightweight fabrics and cause "stringing". If the thread making up the fabric to be sewn is very thin, it may snag. I haven't had that many issues with "blanket" cotton, but it can also snag. Maybe it's the way I hold the needle, but it only happens when I use that kind of needle. I love the idea behind this product and will probably use needles but only for smaller projects.
