Works great for RS-485 and RS-422

Unlike another one I bought that claims both 2-wire RS-485 and to work with 4-wire RS-422, you can actually get along very well with both standards. Plugs in every time and performs like a champ. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Best
Cons
  • I don't really like it, everything is fine

Works well for computer cable adapters

I use a simple 232 to 485 converter that connects to RS485 devices. Works flawlessly. I would like to point out that their kit does not include any fasteners from the panel to the converter. Fits pretty tight. Still I like it.

Pros
  • Availability
Cons
  • Very expensive

Works great in full duplex RS442 configuration

I connected this adapter to an FTDI based USB RS232 adapter and have been using it in full duplex RS442 configuration to communicate/control an embedded system for a few months now , which uses the MODBus protocol at 115.2 kbaud and uses about 12 feet of CAT5e cable.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Secret

Now let's talk. Fits computer accessories and peripherals

Works as advertised. Was concerned that self-powering might not work as expected since my RS-232 connection only has 3 wires (send, receive and ground) but it worked fine (tested at 38.4 kbaud). I disassembled it, it seems well assembled (no extra wires and clean soldering).

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Fits

Not quite connected

I bought two of these kits to extend the connection to the project I am building. The project communicated via 232 without any problems, but I have not yet received the first byte of data via these converters. I tried different values of termination resistors and also added external power supplies. I was also unable to contact the manufacturer for suggestions. I'm going to borrow test equipment from a friend and see if I can figure out what's going on. I really want this neat little converter…

Pros
  • Positive only
Cons
  • Easily serviceable

Works great with PTZ cameras

Purchased to use with OBS Studio to control two FoMaKo PTZ cameras in our church. We've been using it as a RS485 serial adapter for a few months and haven't had any problems. This is an inexpensive solution: you can use your PC to control the camera instead of buying a special controller that is 10-20 times more expensive. The only thing that bothers me is that it sticks out quite a bit when connected to a computer. Consider adding a short serial cable between the PC and the adapter.

Pros
  • Supports a maximum connection distance of 4000ft (1200m)
Cons
  • Other interesting options are available.

Not fully connected

I bought two of these kits to expand the communication capabilities of a project I was creating. The project communicated via 232 without any problems, but I have not yet received the first byte of data via these converters. I tried different values of termination resistors and also added external power supplies. I was also unable to contact the manufacturer for suggestions. Pros
  • The RS 232-485 adapter supports baud rates up to 115.2 kbps; Automatic serial baud rate detection
Cons
  • Expensive
