It doesn't start at the speed you last left it at. I bought a USB switch which would turn it off easily as the back button you use to change the speed is not in a comfortable position for me. Lightweight USB powered fan. Level 1 is quite quiet, but the fan stops by itself after about 30 seconds, making level 1 unusable for me. At speeds 2 and 3 you will definitely hear some noise (similar to a PC fan), but that's to be expected as airflow increases significantly at these speeds. I can feel a gentle breeze even sitting two feet away. I don't know why level 1 doesn't stay on, but level 2 and 3 are great.

I bought this small plastic fan together with the very nice metal fan. This guy is on my floor blowing cold air out of my vent and into the room.
