🍁 Shoyeido Kyoto Autumn Leaves Incense Sticks - Kyo-nishiki (450 sticks) Review

I originally bought this incense stick just after Labor Day. Most of the box burned down over Thanksgiving weekend. I was going to wait until next fall to place a new order but decided to buy it for Christmas. Shoyeido incense sticks are always a good choice for quality incense sticks. Now I only buy Shoyeido and Nippon Kodo.

I found this incense stick at a store in Hawaii many years ago and was so happy to find it again at Revain. The aroma is warm and woody with hints of vanilla. It mixes very well with air and is hardly noticeable when dispersing. The sticks are small, about half the size of a standard incense stick, but they produce a strong scent.

This blend appears to be more balanced with sandalwood and especially benzoin versus the spices, resulting in a tart, dry, smoky aroma. It mixes and purifies the air well, and the aftertaste isn't bad, but quite intense when it burns. Some reviewers have pointed out that the smaller packs of some Shoyeido fragrances are completely different from the larger packs, and that may be the case here as well. not loved.

I am very disappointed with this product. I ordered what seemed to me a large pack (450 pieces), but it turned out that these are very short incense sticks. The disappointment continued when I realized they simply smell like burning leaves and not the usual Shoyeido Kyoto Autumn Leaves flavor I'm used to. These sticks are also green instead of brown. I do not know why. I'm not happy with them at all.

Shoyeido makes a superb light fragrance that freshens the air without oppressing it. I have no idea what Kyoto Autumn Leaves actually smells like, but we use this incense regularly. For people who think they might be allergic to certain brands of incense, you can try this. We found it completely unattractive. However, this incense seems to create a relaxing aura that invites calm and peace into our homes.

I'm a big fan of Kyoto Autumn Leaves. I love sandalwood and cinnamon. I was a bit concerned reading the reviews and the chopsticks were a different colour/smaller size but the taste is the same! I like these incense sticks because they are not very strong and the sticks fall apart (unlike other incense sticks where the sticks are metal or leave a stick behind). Our house is quite small so I usually open the screen door/other windows when lighting one of them.

I'm pretty sure this is not the scent advertised on the packaging. The color and smell are different from the boxes of 35 sticks also sold as "Kyo-nishiki (Autumn Leaves)". They are also significantly shorter than the sticks I'm used to buying. I thought it would be a good wholesale buy as I love this incense so much but as far as I understand it is not the same product.
