Shun TDM0790 Premier Combination Honing Steel - 9-Inch: High-Quality Maintenance Tool for Sharpening Knives Review

Poor quality. The metal part of the handle has a gap of 1 mm. This step can hurt your hands. I think the metal part needs to be sanded down.

The grip does not match the quality of other Shun Premier pens. It's not the same finish or craftsmanship. The colors are duller and don't have a glossy finish. The gold rim is uneven and protrudes from the grip. The gold rim has already started to discolour. I'm not sure if it's fake, but it looks like it. Oddly enough, it was made in China. The handle on the left is a sharpening steel compared to a knife.

We are gradually replacing our old knives with Shun knives so I wanted a sharpener too. I am very happy with this steel. Our old steel was much heavier than this and some of the comments about it being a bit flimsy are correct. It's not as secure in hand as some of the other styles I've used. In fact, it's very light and slim, just like the range of knives we've bought. It matches our Shun knives and is a great quality product.

*My WAS authentic* When I received the honing stick I also noticed that the wood is not as nice/shiny as my other Shun Premiers. This honing machine doesn't look like a real one. The logo is stamped rather than engraved and the look of the honing steel doesn't match the rest of the Premier series of which I own several. Also, there was no information about the product, such as warranty information or the Shun booklet that usually comes with it (which says "inside" on the outside of the box). Premium knives look so great I almost need a neat display unit to display them. It's so sharp you can cut floating paper. However, this sharpener is not a good idea.
