Disappointing at best.

Bought these when my AKGs died and received them overnight as I was thrilled to have them. feels on top. Maybe I have a funny head, maybe not. Also, my SRH440s are currently broken. Yes. A week after I bought it, the headphone jack in my 1/4" jack adapter broke after the thread failed (jammed or mismanaged, I'm not sure) and seems stuck in there forever. The headphones made a grainy, thin, fluffy sound when recording 48000 @ 24 bit. Not sure if it was my DAW/interface but I doubt it as my last…

Really good headphones!

There are pros and cons in everything. So let's start with the pros: - The sound quality is amazing. Crisp highs, clear mids and rich bass. Very well balanced - Sturdy construction of the outer shell and ear cups - Love the ability to change the cable by removing it from the headset! - No fit issues. Very convenient. I used them about 6-9 hours a day and never had a problem. I've read that others have complained about "head compression" but I'm pretty sure they haven't set the pages properly…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Communication with the seller

Sensitive, clear, but not very enduring and oh so heavy!

Pros:* Outstanding frequency balance. All ranges from low to high are well and adequately represented, not overwhelming.* Very sensitive to soft sounds, so high volume is almost never necessary, especially in a quiet room*. You adjust the volume so that the loudest 2kHz square wave no longer causes pain, you can use the same volume setting and stand at the entrance to the factory on Kings Row and still hear the reaper coming up the stairs. On the back deck. In short, "ripped headphone users"…

Less than a year later, two different sets of headphones broke down

My first Shure SRH440 came with our high quality electronic keyboard that we bought. They lasted about 9 months before the piece of plastic holding the earbuds attached to the hat (or whatever) broke. In other words, the headphones hung from a small wire. Okay, we're unlucky. So we ordered a new one from Revain. After less than 3 months, the earplugs came loose again. See photo. The headphones sit comfortably on the head and ears. The sound quality is good, the noise cancellation is also good…

Great phones with a SERIOUS design flaw

UPDATE: August 2012 Shure has replaced my phones! I wrote to them and called them. Very friendly staff. It turned out there was a Shure partner in New Delhi and I went to him and they immediately exchanged the phones for new ones. The manufacturer's warranty is two years, which is great. The design flaw remains, of course. I'm Shure, they'll fix it. I wouldn't want to use any other set of lenses. You are just perfect. UPDATE: July 2012 There is a metal T-hook that fits on the top (head) part…

Not bad - the price is probably right

The Shure SRH440 headphones are solid and well made overall. Based on the experience of many other reviewers, I found the ear pads and headband quite uncomfortable (the headband started pressing on my head almost immediately). I've already replaced the earcups with Shure SRH840 models (available from Revain for $14.49) and they offer a much more comfortable fit. I also ordered the Replacement Clip-On Leatherette Headband Comfort Cushion (not sold by Shure but also available from Revain for…

Build quality is low key, otherwise amazing sound

I am writing this review six years after purchase. I was going to write it after a few years of wearing it, but forgot. So if you're looking for a pair of headphones that will last, look elsewhere. . These glasses are heavy as others have mentioned. The headband is awfully soft. The ear pads are thin and actually degrade the sound quality. You will need to replace them within the first year with either replacement Shure 940 ear pads or third party ear pads like Brainwavz which I purchased. The…

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Exorbitant price

I recently needed over-the-ear headphones on a budget of $100 and was curious to see what the market had to offer. I thought I could share my findings with someone who is in a similar situation. The Shure SRH440 proved to be the most accurate, neutral-sounding, closed-back design of the eight headphone models I compared. Below is my review of these headphones. I assemble speakers with meters so I know what a neutral and undistorted sound is. Unlike speakers, most headphones don't have a…
