💾 SP 1TB SSD Review: Boost Performance with 3D NAND, SLC Cache & SATA III Interface - SP001TBSS3A55S25 Review

Silicon Power A55 changed the controller to sm2258xt, no DRAM, poor performance when more than half full, maybe 500GB - so slc caching is useless. I'm totally disappointed in everything. Silicon Power ruined the entire A55 brand with the sm2258xt. It's a completely bad controller.

So here. I was a little Leary. At the time of purchase, that's about $50 less than other 1TB SSDs. So I expected it to be slower than a regular SSD. It's a little slower. Still faster than the HDD. So far, so good. People in the reviews say it didn't help them after about 2 months or so. Until mine failed. I wouldn't call it the best SSD but for now it suits me.

Great disc for the price. Be careful with the software you need to download to monitor your drive. It seems to contain a virus that spread to both the old drive and this new SSD during the cloning process, rendering both drives inoperable. I had to download the recovery files from the PC vendor and do a full reinstall of all the software, which defeated the purpose of software cloning. The drive failed after 2 days.

I purchased this disc on September 28th, 2018 and used it in my PS4 to replace the 1TB hybrid drive. It seems to have been working fine, but on November 13th the PS4 just got locked and I got a "No Media" message. The drive was ejected and it is not recognized on the PC to try to run chkdsk. I've looked at it using Seatools recovery tools and it's just a few random bits of data. I tried to install Linux (Mint 19) on the hard drive, but something went wrong after the installation. If you use the ext4 file system by default, after the operating system starts, the file system will be marked as read-only for any period of time (from several hours to a day) and you will have to reboot. Running a file system check from the operating system installation media did not reveal any problems. Decided to format it to NTFS on a Windows computer and it formatted without any problems.

The hard drive I received can be formatted and used as an internal or external solid state drive.
