Great for light use

My granddaughter has started playing soccer. It was difficult for her to learn new throwing and catching techniques because she was afraid of getting hit by the ball. I did some research and found that baseballs are softer, so I decided to give it a try. It is very good. They're the right size but a lot softer so they're easier to hold when throwing and easier to catch because if you get hit it doesn't hurt. While they appear to be of good quality, I probably wouldn't use them for kicks…

Fine until they

The boys and I play around the car so we have to use soft balls. They had outgrown the soft safety T-Balls and tore the seams (and/or landed on concrete) with their metal bats the first time, so I decided to give them a try. They lasted about four sessions before the same thing happened. So far they've been great, with good glove feel and fast action. For reference, my boys are 9 years old but small for their age. If you play on grass or mud they may be ok. I couldn't tell if it was the impact…

Pros
  • starter balls and bats
Cons
  • skinny

After a few training sessions they seem to wear out quite a bit. I'm not sure if they will last all season. The lid is also quite slippery, so it has to scratch a bit. Seems to fall apart after 7 training sessions, only allowing kids to use them for throwing. I used one for field practice, but it practically fell apart after a few balls, so I switched to an actual baseball. It's not that bad, but don't expect to get much use out of it before you have to throw it in the trash.

Pros
  • Plastic balls
Cons
  • I don't have any negative feelings, it's ok

Exactly what I expected, was looking for and needed

This is good quality and a great way to introduce young people to the art of catching a ball. A memory from my own childhood of being a very good flyball player prompted me to start my junior baseball player with a ball that wouldn't be as damaging as the official hardball. And the forethought paid off as the rookie's coordination slammed in the face. I could tell my little princess was shocked and a little scared by the experience but I'm sure the softness of this ball helped her a lot and…
