Description of SMALLRIG Professional Camera Cage for Canon, Nikon, Sony & Panasonic GH3/GH4 with Battery Grip-1750: A Comprehensive Review & Buying Guide

SMALLRIG VersaFrame Cage (Large) 1750 is a lightweight and compatible VersaFrame cage for large cameras and camcorders. The rods on both sides let you go handheld right away. The rods can be adjusted in height and position around the camera, and one side can even be completely removed if not needed. All camera connections, buttons, dials and the battery door remain fully accessible. Our custom hotshoe pinch connects your camera into one solid piece with the cage. Plenty of 1/4"-20 mounting threads allow for assembly of a full rig to your needs. The height of the cheese rods is 197mm and the width of this cage is 196mm. If you are using large cameras, such as for Canon EOS-1DC, for Canon 1DX; for Nikon D3X/D3S; for Sony a7/a7S/a7R/a7II/a7RII/a7SII (with battery grip); for Panasonic GH3/GH4 (with battery grip).

Almost perfect for accessories

Overall I like this product but there is no good way to mount it for the rails/tripod plate. The lower mounting holes are unfavorably arranged. Good quality and otherwise very pretty.

Pros
  • Special offer
Cons
  • Not as good as it says

This cage works great with Olympus E-M1X

I wasn't sure if it would work with my E-M1X or not but I ordered it anyway. Works perfectly. I added a handle and two cooling shoes to make a great video system for my E-M1X.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • No performance

Recommended for videographers.

Before buying this cage I tried different models and brands. The cage works well for cameras with battery holder, quick release plate, microphone and LED flashlight. The cage doesn't have a perfect design, but it works very well.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Seems good enough for my needs. 6+ inches tall is enough for my Canon DSLR Rebel with the battery socket mounted underneath. The top plate of the cage is designed to fit the camera's top shoe, but it doesn't fit my camera. It is also NOT included. Use an appropriately sized hex wrench to tighten or loosen the upper mounting shoe screws so that they slide and make noise when you move the camera. Otherwise it's fine. Keep shopping if the above is a problem.

Pros
  • Good item
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Works perfectly with my Fuji XT-2

Ordered for a trip to Iceland. It works great with my Fuji XT-2. My cameras have L-shaped RRS plates, so I attached an RRS clamp to the frame. This will reduce the distance between the top and bottom plates by about 1/2 inch. So I tried my Nikon D-800. Fits with no problems. The position of the top and bottom panels can be easily adjusted for greater heights. However, I forgot to bring something to mount an external microphone. Left the cold/hot shoe mount at home. I ended up using zip ties to…

  • Lots of positive emotions

  • Security

BASE PLATE SCREW WILL BE CUT OFF! NO RISK

I don't usually write reviews at all. But I thought it worth mentioning that you should be very careful when connecting a Canon 1DX MK II to this unit. I ordered a number of different small gear components and was very satisfied until I decided to pair the CAGE with my shoulder gear baseplate. The two obviously did NOT connect properly and the screw is completely BROKEN. Both the cage and the shoulder gear have just been taken out of the box. NOT GOOD. If I had adjusted the cage all the way…

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Unreliable

Looks very durable and strong, all metal parts

• Packing: Packed very well with other products. Free shipping with Revain Prime in less than 48 hours. Product: Arrived as expected, disassembled. It looks very strong and sturdy, all parts are metal. Assembling the cage is a bit clunky and I had to adjust the position of the top and bottom plates so I could access the battery compartment on my Canon 5DMKII. In order to change the position of the plates, they must be unscrewed and then screwed back into place, although this is not a difficult…

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Let me start by saying that I'm excited about the little camcorder I built for my 5D3. This method of building a custom rig will never be the cheapest or even the best option (in terms of amount of material for your money), but when it comes to getting a rig that perfectly suits your mental abilities. Scheme is the only way. There are other brands that offer components that can be mixed and matched with Smallrig parts and while I don't have much experience with them I know that what I've seen…

Pros
  • Easy Installation
Cons
  • Long Time
