Description of Smart Bit Pre Drilling Countersinking Woodworking BDA146

#10 trim head design for use with #8 trim head screws. Pre-drill and countersink in one easy step that creates the perfect hole every time. The Smart-Bit stop collar spins free of the drill bit, preventing marring of the deck surface. Each Smart-Bit comes with 2 replacement drill bits. A "must have" for any deck builder or woodworker.

Good to have - Drill

Works very well. I almost never use my old countersinks again because they don't damage the wood. There may be a small mark that can be easily erased.

Pros
  • #10 Cap design for use with #8 head screws
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Ideal for drills

I bought the 7, 8 and 10. The 8 and 10 really match the DeckMate screws. #7 is for composite screws. The lower the number, the smaller the drill. I broke off 1 bit while I was just drilling the composite panel. So make sure you hold the bit straight and at full speed so you don't strain the bit.

Pros
  • Smart bit collet rotates without a drill to avoid damage to deck surface
Cons
  • Available in white only

Pretty good, but could be better. I'm still glad I bought it!

This means that around 2500 holes have been pre-drilled. The tool still works. The only problem I had was that after about 30 holes the bit loosened and got stuck in the wood. I would have to take it out with a vise and put it back in the tool. I ground the end of the drill and tightened the set screw about every 30 holes. I'm still glad I bought it.

Pros
  • A must for every terrace builder or carpenter
Cons
  • So far, so good
