🚚 Thetford 40517 SmartTote 2 LX: 18-Gallon RV Waste Tote Tank with 4 Wheels - Portable and Efficient Review

It's amazing how much we trust these products and if you ever have to do it, you have to make sure it works properly. Luckily the hose broke after the black tank emptied and I was collecting gray water. Unbelievable. The product is nice and solidly made, but oh well. What if the hose breaks? Unreal. There was almost a sewage accident and with heat etc it would have been a mess. I shake my head as I type this. Buyers - pay attention!

Time will tell if this product will last long enough to be worth the price. I don't know how the handle or wheels will perform when taken (even carefully) to a landfill. I have a separate gray water tank for the kitchen sink so this would be a great way to save me from having to move my van to empty that tank (we usually use a camp shower). I had a carrying platform built into the rear trailer. Bumper as a means of transport when traveling. Higher stars if the tank can withstand prolonged use.

I chose this product because I thought Thetford designs and manufactures quality products. I am very disappointed as this product cannot be fully drained! The hose and drain have two sections that run on either side of the drain. Waste accumulates there that cannot be removed from these two areas. I was so happy to get it, I checked out the video and it looked so easy, so easy. It was dirty the first time I used it - I put it down to my inexperience. I rolled back to the dump on a dirt road, I thought that's why it was hard to pull. When I got to the dump and got ready to unload, I pulled the block by the handle onto the platform, the handle slipped out of my hands and fell down along with the block that fell on it, breaking the handle in two ! This is NOT an upgrade of the previous model. It costs more but you get less. I had the previous model for a few years and was happy, but the parts were worn out. If you can't find an older model, consider buying a Barker bag instead of this new Thetford. I can only think that the people giving positive feedback on this device have not used anything else. I'll start by saying that this thing adequately solved a big problem for me. My van was disabled and I couldn't empty the tanks where it was parked. It looks like a well thought out system. And now the worst. As other reviewers have pointed out, DO NOT trust it to be fully assembled. You will likely end up with a mess.
