Works 100% with Tasmota

I bought these to use with Tasmota and they work great! Easy to disassemble with a screwdriver and a plastic spatula, easy to solder in places clearly marked for programming, and not scratched at all after disassembly. The Tasmota software can even see Power Factor, Watts, Apparent Power, Volts and Amps! I haven't tried the included app, it probably sucks like most smart plug apps.

Pros
  • One Year Trial
Cons
  • Legacy Model

Without a doubt favorite socket

This has been our favorite socket for a long time. And now that it's UL listed, it goes just that little bit higher. Two plugs fit perfectly into one socket without pressing anything. If you want to flash it manually with Tasmota or other open source firmware, the WiFi board on it is the same as before, so all profiles/templates work fine. The product is still held together with screws, not glue, making it very easy to reassemble.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction

Easy to change to use Tasmota firmware

Although they work out of the box, my main goal was to use them to monitor my home's power consumption without relying on cloud services. They're easy to disassemble, flash with Tasmota firmware, and reassemble. You need an FTDI adapter. Underneath the covers, the build quality is good with no visible bad solder joints (on the four I've upgraded so far). It's not clear if they can handle long periods at near full rated load, but they do detail different performance statistics. At $10 each this…

I needed an outlet with local control and power control

Sonoff isn't the smallest but I needed an outlet with local control and power control. I was able to flash the Tasmota to an outlet in about 5 minutes as the Sonoff is easy to disassemble. When the Tasmota firmware is running on an outlet, everything is controlled locally with Home Assistant. There is no need to connect the device to a server in a distant country and there is no connection outside of my home. In fact, I've placed all my IoT devices on a VLAN that has no access to the internet…

Flash with Tasmota to unlock this device

Flash these switches with OpenSource Tasmota firmware to unlock the full potential of these switches. With Tasmota, there's no dependency on the cloud, no calls home, no privacy risk. You can use this switch as a standalone device by visiting the Tasmota website. In addition, Tasmota offers full MQTT integration on this switch for use with HomeAssistant or OpenHab. I have five of these switches with the Tasmota installed and they are bulletproof. The switch's remote control is great, but the…

Ugly user interface and hardware firmware can go wrong

The power supply is based on WiFi and I haven't connected to Hassio yet. I've tried resetting the device to Local API mode with no success so far. The Android app is clunky and requires a cloud login. I let Hassio run without a cloud. After much frustration in DIY mode, I tried flashing it with Tasmota. Soldering the wires was a bit tricky - I suggest using connectors instead. Then I found out that some FTDI and other serial tools run at 5V and logic at 3.3V. After finally getting the full 3.3V

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly crumpled

Room for improvement

I bought this kit to monitor my server's power consumption. I received the package today. Setting up between quick pairing mode and compatibility mode was a bit confusing. Lesson learned: Make sure your smartphone is pre-connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network. Otherwise, quick pairing will not work. Once set up, all you have to do is give the device and your rooms a name. Right at the beginning I have two points of criticism: 1. The large on/off switch in the app switches the device off without…

It just works! - Sockets and accessories

Advantages: Small area, so you can install two on a normal single socket. Appears to be well put together, a cut above the unnamed material of dubious provenance and attention to the electrics. Code/Security. It is EXTREMELY easy to disassemble and flash the Tasmota/ESPHome when you need it. Easily integrates with Home Assistant and displays history of energy consumption, power, apparent power, reactive power, power factor, voltage and current. Cons: I ordered five units; (four S31s and one S31

Unreliable pairing and semi-wet feel for an established company

Failed to load media. After reading so many rave reviews about the S31 and how it helped start the smart plug revolution, we were *extremely* disappointed. It took 15-20 attempts to pair the connector and before sending it back I decided to reset the connector and see if it was an accident - no, after 10 attempts it still wouldn't connect. Take a look at the exact behavior of the video sharing - unfortunately, with this level of detail, the eWeLink team cannot explain why the "Connecting to…
