When I switched from standard definition to a Canon HD camcorder, I also upgraded the recording tapes. Of course, they cost a little more than standard tapes. Why would anyone put all their money into a top quality camcorder and not use HD tapes? Why would you record to anything other than tape? High quality, long lifespan, faster/easier media change, no compression loss. We record motorcycle safety programs and require professional looking videos. These tapes meet our requirements.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Sad packaging

High quality tapes for high definition recording

Sony is a trusted brand and these tapes will not disappoint. I've been using them in my HD camcorder for over 2 years with great results. The quality is excellent, I've never had a marriage for dozens of cassettes. When I'm recording, I'm usually filming something important - kids sports, music concerts, etc., and I don't want to miss it because of a bad shot, etc. These Sony cassettes do not disappoint.

Excellent performance HD MiniDV tape - recommended

Sony MiniDV tape has always worked well in our SD camcorders (Canon and Panasonic) and now that we have switched to HD (HD HD camcorders ( Canon VIXIA HV40 HD HDV with 10x optical zoom) Sony "DVC HD MiniDV" tapes are the only ones we want to use. The playback quality is amazing and we never noticed any errors in our recordings important as we shoot instructional videos for our family run business and make sure the videos are perfect every time Highly recommended!

Good quality tape

I can't comment on other HD mini tapes, but this tape is of very good quality. No problems transferring to a computer and editing in the program. It also shows well on HD TVs when you connect the HDMI cable from the camcorder to the TV. The only problem I have is after writing over and over again. loses playback. Video cannot be displayed on the camcorder in VCR mode. I believe this is called video dropout. It happened on 1 tape. while other cassettes did not. That being said, I think you…

The only way!

I HATE when people tell me that "HD tapes don't exist". First, you don't understand how chemicals and metals react. You probably don't even understand magnets! I've been making videos for over 20 years and I know how different cassettes work. When I use a standard definition Panasonic Mini DV tape in my Sony FX-1000, frames, jumps or glitches are ALWAYS dropped somewhere. The performance and video quality of Sony HDV tapes is superior to all others. I got my HDV camera at the same time that…
