very good price-performance ratio

i bought it a few days ago (2004) and installed it on my system in about 15 minutes including setup. Unlike my old DVD player, this one plays my DVD+R and DVD+RW discs with no problems. Audio is ok too. Another thing is that it's thin and fits in a small space above another component. I have no idea how long the device will last but if it is like other Sony components it will last, maybe it will be replaced so that a new modality can be used in the future. Excellent picture and sound

Let me first say that I didn't buy this DVD player to play recorded DVDs or SVCDs, I just wanted a good DVD player to play my regular DVDs, when my old Sony died. The picture quality is very impressive and I did NOT have progressive scan attached, only S-Video so I'm sure progressive scan will make it much more impressive. and plays friends' DVDs flawlessly (I've read some complaints about TV season DVDs, but that hasn't happened to me.) - Great, easy-to-use remote control. Great Sony DVD Player

I've had one of these for a few years and use it with my bedroom TV. I had a Pioneer Bluray with my living room TV and it was the most complicated player I have ever used. My wife and I just hated using the Blu-ray because it took more than a few minutes to open the loading drawer, it had crappy stills and crappy slow motion, and the remote control was awful to use.
