AMAZING noise cancellation and sound quality, but POOR call quality

I've been looking for noise canceling headphones for a long time. I've had my eye on the 1000XM2 for a while but noticed a few issues like weight, ear pad comfort etc. I was about to pull the trigger when I read somewhere that the 1000XM3 was imminent and backed off. After a big reveal, I ordered here the day they were available for pre-order and received them last week! So far the headphones have exceeded all my expectations. Except for one tiny little thing, which turned out to be a serious…

Pros
  • QUICK ATTENTION MODE: Close the right ear cup to turn off the music for instant and easy calls
Cons

Almost useless when used with a laptop

When I use the Bluetooth connected WH-1000XM3 headphones on my 2018 Macbook Pro, ambient noise stays on even in noise-cancelling mode, to the point where it's actually worse than no noise cancellation at all. I connected the headphones to the app on my phone and lowered the ambient noise settings and it worked, but only on the phone. When I reconnected to my Macbook, I had the same problem. When I connect to my Macbook through the headphone jack, I don't have this problem. But I don't want to…

Great sound but not the most comfortable

We were able to compare the Sony WH1000XM3 with the Bose QC35II. They are both high quality but optimized for a variety of use cases. In the end, I chose to leave Bose and my wife chose to leave Sony. Sony is optimized for listening to music. You have the feeling of sitting in an orchestra or being the conductor. If the recording is of high quality, you'll hear every detail and breathe along with the musicians. (The default setting is too bassy, but turning down the "clean bass" on the app's…

So far, so good! for headphones

Last week I was in New York on a business trip and after a few drinks over dinner I decided I needed ANC headphones. I went to Best Buy and bought the Sony 1000xM2 headphones as I had heard a lot of good things about them along with some known build quality issues. I was able to use them for several hours that night and the next day during my flight home. When I got home, I saw in my newsfeed that the M3 had just been announced with new features like USB-C, new processor, improved design, etc…

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • No color required

Bose has been decidedly discontinued (update)

I currently own about 30 headphones of different brands and types. I have tried many Bluetooth headphones, I have Bose QC35 II and Bowers and Wilkins PX. I bought both Sony WH-1000x MKI and MKII but returned them after weighing the cons and cost. My main complaints were comfort and sound (active noise cancellation has always been good). My go-to wearable headphones were the Bose QC 35 II. I especially liked them for their comfort and ANC. The sound of the Bose is best described as adequate but…
