Great recorder/player.

Ease of use and setup. Not a DVR, but no worse. Records and plays R and RW + or - discs. This is a real plus. Would buy this again from this seller. Everything came in the box including the original batteries in the original shrink wrap.

Received running DVD that was about to die

The display was only partially working and was dark. After about 5 checks, the DISC tray will be locked in the closed position. I'm in a nursing home with assistance for disabled veterans. I'm also locked in my room because of the virus and still need a DVD burner.

Has worked great for a year

This has been a great DVD burner for a year. After 1 year a welcome message appeared and never disappeared. Even after I unplugged it for a few days, it still wouldn't turn off after I plugged it back in. No buttons worked, not even the power button worked. I called Sony and they said it needed to be repaired and sent to a service center thousands of miles away. With my money, of course. The funny thing is that this device died just a few months after the warranty expired. This is junk. Don't…

Great recorder but doesn't play many commercial DVDs

Record mode works great but I have over FIVE commercial DVDs from Area 1 that won't play on this unit. I KEEP my old Sony DVD/VCR combo - it has no problems with these 5 discs. Each is listed as a Type 9 "Double Layer" DVD (all Disney releases). my conclusion? Get a device if you want to sign up. But first? Go out and buy a cheap DVD player to play commercial releases. I had the same problem with a Panasonic device. These DVD recorders appear to have serious problems playing commercial DVDs.

Good quality all-in-one

I bought this DVD burner primarily because it supports dual layer discs, allowing you to record over two hours of the highest quality. This is a nice addition to my Tivo S3 HD device. I can archive the shows and films I want to keep straight to Sony. Of course, everything goes through analog ports, but the quality is good. I do have one small gripe with this machine, the interface to the title discs is pretty awkward, but that's okay. Another issue is how durable this machine will be. I read in

Better than I expected

If you're experienced at burning DVDs on your computer, this should be easy. I've read the previous reviews and I definitely understand any frustration with the electronics. The reason this DVD player does not "PAUSE" while recording is because you need to click "Stop Recording" in order for it to burn what you have written on the disc. Once you click "Record" again, the recording will resume from where you left off, unless it's a rewritable disc. If you buy DVD-RW discs, you can use the disc…

Nice but slow DVD recorder

This is my first purchase of a DVD recorder which was triggered by a VCR croaking. I looked more closely at other manufacturers' options, but I was put off by reports of poor quality and cars dying out while they were young. I've found over the years that the quality of Sony components tends to last, which offsets their higher price tag. I agree with other reviewers that picture quality is excellent (indistinguishable from native SD), but this device is surprisingly slow. - a full minute just…
