I used an HDMI connection to connect it directly to my HDTV. As other reviews have said, it will not duplicate copy-protected material or allow you to record material that is broadcast with a protection signal, but you shouldn't expect that. It reads and writes a variety of DVD formats and does what it's supposed to do well.
