Excellent - more than expected

Well I hope my review helps people. I am extremely exceptional in terms of readability. This remote control was one of my best purchases. I read maybe 15 pages of the book and figured out the whole remote. The book is about the size of an almanac, so I think it was impressive just looking at a few pages and getting the hang of it. I set up the remote to work with all the devices I have, including the air conditioner. The only device it didn't work with was my Bose receiver. I love the remote so

I'm an amateur videophile

I only have four components for this remote and the programming was pretty easy, tedious but easy. It works great and looks good, but it's quite bulky. On the plus side, I've programmed it so I don't have to keep switching between remote functions to control different components. Also, it will be easier for friends to control the remote control. Second, there is a button for each function that I use frequently. Finally it really gets rid of a lot of clutter in the remote control. The biggest…

Defective by nature

The device's ability to learn from other devices is great and it was able to learn and emulate all of my devices with no problems. Unfortunately, the device suffers from an inherent design flaw that causes it to freeze randomly, requiring you to remove the batteries from the device (reset the clock) and reinsert it. This happened to me about every other day when I was using it. Unfortunately, Sony's technical support email wasn't very helpful in resolving issues. Just to make sure it wasn't a…

Great remote but takes a long time to program

I bought this remote knowing there were problems with the unit. I knew the instructions were difficult to follow, but I also knew it was a great remote. Both are still correct since I received the remote control yesterday. I consider myself a tech savvy person but it took about 2.5 hours to program. This also applies to other electronics for programming. I had to program a Panasonic DVD player, a Samsung TV, a Sony CD player and a Sony amplifier. The funny thing is that the remote control…

Pros and cons of the Sony Universal Control

This is the Sony Universal Control. In theory, once programmed, you can remove the sea of remotes you have and do anything with this one. Pros: Has a remote learning capability if preset numbers don't work for your component. Has physical buttons to move channel up/down. , volume up/down and menu navigation - and they can be reprogrammed. Looks professional. Install remote features. The learning feature can be quirky, requiring you to dim the lights in the room and try using some features many…

Great value for money

Remote controls that do what they can often sell for 3 to 4 times the price. I bought it for $100 over five years ago and it still works great. I have NEVER lost the programming when changing batteries. The user interface isn't perfect, but it's more than satisfactory for a touchscreen remote that learns from your old remotes and is packed with features. I think it will control up to 99 devices! Fingerprints weren't a problem for me as I watched TV most of the night and when the remote comes on

Maybe for you, but NOT FOR WIFE

The Sony remote is for the techie only, not your wife or anyone already intimidated by simpler remotes. I bought it to give my wife a key configuration of her audio/video system at home but he can't. The failure has less to do with the limitations of the Sony remote and more to do with the "stupidity" of the audio/video components themselves, particularly the TV. Although the RMAV3000 is well designed, it has 3 disadvantages to consider before purchasing for less ambitious applications. None of
