Great optics for camera and photo

Great optics for an old zoom. I shoot with a high megapixel body and weaker zooms have a disadvantageous IQ. Wide opening angles at some focal lengths, this lens is not perfect but good and very good at 2/3 of frame. Stop it at a stop or so to preserve sharpness across the frame. AF is pretty fast on customized A7rii and LA-EA3

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Repair

This lens is fast and takes great pictures

I bought this lens for a safari trip in Africa. It's too big and heavy to carry around for hours. but those are the only downsides. When I first started photographing wildlife, I was glad I bought this lens. The focus is very fast and the images are sharp, even though the jeep is constantly in motion, so even a monopod or tripod wouldn't help. I have some gallery shots from the trip so I'm happy with that. I still wish Sony could make a similar but smaller lens

  • Perfect for outdoor activities

Amazing lens - super sharp even at 400mm widest aperture

This lens does not need to be stopped to focus, it maintains sharp images even in the most extreme conditions. I have owned this lens for over 3 years; Bought by Revain in February 2010 for $1,600 (yes, Sony has raised the price several times since). This lens replaced my old Minolta 100-400 which was a 'good' lens but was a bit disappointing at 400mm unless it had an aperture built in. This lens will not disappoint you! Sharp at all focal lengths. I usually shoot with my hand wide open to get…

Ideal for long-distance shooting and good for macro photography.

The "G" series lenses simply can't compete with the lenses you buy at your local store. Again, the price difference between this lens and the kit lens is quite different. There have been many comments about this lens and its weight. Believe these comments. The lens is heavy and not quite suitable for "walking". However, I took mine on a 1-3 hour hike and it's not overwhelming but I'm also a big guy. Colour, contrast, clarity and precision across the range. In addition to shooting from a…

Pricey but I love this item!

I bought this around November 2011 and as the winter got colder I had to remove the lens and camera as I don't really like photographing in winter. Other than that, I didn't use this lens very much, but once I did, I couldn't believe how good it was. I was able to count shingles on a pine cone in a 100 foot tree 250 feet from my house with the sun behind the tree. I could tell you from 350 feet away if the license plate screw was pan head or Phillips. This item is of good quality. The bokeh is…
