Review: Speck SmartShell Case for MacBook Pro 13-Inch, Steel Blue - Not for Retina Macbook Review

I put this case on my MacBook Pro yesterday so this is just a first quality rating. I like the smooth body and how it feels in the hand. It doesn't increase the computer's volume but makes it more durable in hand. The reason I like this case so much more than the others is that it attaches to the back of the computer base. I had to return it. It was too big for a 13" MacBook Air. It is transparent but does not appear to be durable. It didn't cost $7.91 or my time to get it back. I don't know if it's durable. I leave it to Goodwill.

Case cracked about two weeks after receipt. The edge broke when I went to get my laptop. It has never been dropped or subjected to any sort of injury, just a micro tear that cut through the plastic from the pressure my fingers applied when lifting the computer off the table. I'm assuming it's still functional (still) but I figured the plastic would be more durable or flexible. Instead, the plastic is extremely rigid, almost like glass. I have had a 2012 Macbook Pro since 2015. Within the first year, my translucent bacon wrapper cracked at the bottom top corners, even with careful handling. However, a piece has broken off at the bottom. I've searched all over eBay for a replacement but didn't want to pay for a replacement at retail price. Come to Revain and find "Nickel Grey" for $7! And I love the cleaner color reminiscent of the space gray of the new MacBooks on my unibody Macbook :) Thanks Revane!

I love speckled products. I also had a dispute with some of their products. I bought this case in black satin finish. I always take good care of my MacBook. Even with extreme caution. The black satin staples began to crack and break off. As a result, the bottom fell off completely. Finally I decided to change the situation by buying a regular finishing case. My MacBook is a 2020 13" model and unfortunately this case doesn't fit. My MacBook also does NOT have a retina display, I checked the About Mac section before purchasing and it does not have a retina. If you have a newer MacBook I would not recommend this case. I couldn't even put it on because it was about 1 inch too big.

Great for your laptop. GRAY is elegant and CLEAR. I got one after my backpack strap broke and my computer fell on the concrete floor. Yes, the computer was dented, but if I hadn't had the SmartShell, it would have taken ADDITIONAL damage. So I got a NEW SmartShell and I feel damn good. I've had LOTS of computers and this is the first to have a "helmet".
