Spektrum TX USB Programming Cable Review

This cable will not work without an adapter which is included when purchasing a separate radio but is not included when purchasing a ready to fly aircraft, e.g. on Carbon Cub RTF. The instructions don't say anything about it, I bought this cable only to find it won't fit without an adapter, which is being returned and costs about $5 (plus shipping?). I've contacted Horizon Hobby and they will send me one for free, but the website says 'ordered'. I was also warned not to update the firmware yet…

I needed this to upgrade/repair my AR-630 and AR-631 spectrum receivers. It worked as advertised after I registered it and you need to get a serial number for it. Having paid for the radio it seems ridiculous that it wasn't included but it wasn't.

Remember you will likely need an SPM adapter cable as well. Otherwise you cannot connect to the 4-wire receiver. to the new spm4651t?

I bought this for my DXe radio and it works well. Easy to use if you follow the EXACT order in the instructions. I still think this should have come with the radio and not as a separate accessory.

The cable allowed me to get a serial number to register my As3x RX in my Blade 230s. That's all he did. My software is up to date, so there have been no updates since 07/06/16. The software is 4.23 and is the latest for now. I wish I knew this before spending money on a cable but you can't tell what the latest software is on the spectrum website without registering an RX and you can't register an RX without a serial number and you can no serial number received number without cable. The latest 2021 update of the WIN program supposedly made it compatible with the new AR637T receiver which was designed for 'direct programming' from the transmitter. Despite the connection, however, it did not show any function. But to make matters worse, it behaved stupidly for old receivers like the AR636, which I previously successfully programmed.
