Not recommended

The location is not exact. I recorded them being up to 100 yards wrong. that's a lot of room for error. Some places I will register, others not. Very inconsistent.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Some small things

WARNING. decoy tactics.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Classic bait and switch scam. I paid $100 for tracking and $100 for the first year of service and 11 months later the price went up to $164! If it were a perfect device I'd consider it an astronomical leap, but to be honest it's pretty bad at best. Just search for the app in the App Store and check out the reviews for more reviews. I'll give you a hint, they're terrible. The tracker works, but it uses batteries like no other (even with Energizer Lithium batteries). I'm…

It's hard to cancel a service. Price increases abound.

I have been using this spot device for two years. For some reason, every time it rains, the device notifies me that it's moving. Spot is in a safe, dry place, but the weather seems to be confusing him. The first year of service is $99. For the second year, Spot automatically renewed my service without notifying me. They were somehow able to charge an expired credit card that I had on file. The joke is that the New Year's service was billed at $164. Spot recently emailed users notifying them…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Volume

Working but line of sight to sky for satellite coverage is somewhat limited for non-commercial use. I was also very disappointed with the contract offer. There is NO monthly offer. So you can pay for just the device, but expect 1.5x what you would pay for the first year of service. They give the impression that when you sign up it's just month by month, but buyers beware! When it comes to tracking, it is better to use a cheap mobile phone with a monthly tariff and a large battery. You'll save…

HORRIBLE PRODUCT for GPS, finders and accessories

Simply put, this is the worst purchase of my life. The following points are worth emphasizing: 1) You don't need this device because (a) it's useless for security purposes (more below), (b) for location tracking purposes, there are apps that work much better for a lot less money (like the Rever- app, the Garmin app, even Google Maps); 2) Battery: After 1 week of continuous use (needed to be charged every day by the way), the battery stopped working; 3) Without a battery, the device needs to be…

Pros
  • Few competitors

  • Definitely bad product

The cost of services goes up, UP, UP!

I have had it for 2 years now. I keep it in a closed trailer that I keep on construction sites. I have a master lock, three hockey puck master locks for two doors, and a spot gps tracker. I've been paying $164 a year for the past two years. Lady Knight, I received an email from Customer Service thanking me for being a regular customer. They also informed me that they would be increasing the cost of maintaining neighbors to $199.99 per year and adding a nice little "network maintenance fee" of…

SPOT customer service is good but the product is not worth the hassle

I have been using SPOT for a year as a security measure to protect my utility trailer which is often parked in remote locations. I give SPOT's phone support team high marks, they are friendly and always willing to help. I rate SPOT Online access to my account with low ratings - they confuse billing and renewal procedures so canceling SPOT Online service through secure account access is not an option. In order to cancel before the auto-renewal, I had to call friendly people at phone support…

I really wanted to love it

I used to/now have had two other trackers. The first one had a much more basic presentation of information, so I replaced it with this one: SpyTech STI GL 300 (Spy Tec STI GL300 Mini Portable Real Time Personal and Vehicle GPS Tracker). I wasn't happy with the battery life so I ordered Spot Trace. My rating is based on a comparison of the two products. To be honest, I don't use Trace to track an asset in case it gets stolen; I use it to continuously monitor an asset for different periods of…

They rented a meth lab - but the greedy company raised the prices

We were robbed several times at a construction site. I ordered a few of these but they didn't make it in time for the last theft. or so I thought. It's been quiet for a month and last night they attacked us again. First, they stole my $15,000 tractor and $2,100 attachments, a cement mixer, and some other tools. I wish I had a tracker with me all the time, but I didn't think people steal tractors (we think they towed it to a trailer). So I recently bought a replacement router, just an 18" pitch…
