If I were to do this review in June of this year I would easily give it 5 stars. In fact, we liked it so much that my husband and I ordered a new one for our downstairs bathroom asap. Unfortunately, we only got the second one today for financial reasons. I loved it and put it together right away, but I could tell it was different. This is how people defecated thousands of years before John Crapper invented the porcelain toilet. (Go to Turkey, Japan, Nigeria and many other countries and the toilets are still just a hole in the ground with a flush hose.) We really like the bamboo version. It has a "furniture quality" to match our bathroom. This product is widely used.

I found the Bamboo FLIP Squatty potty I received in mid-October 2019 to be a good fit and finish and easy to assemble. The four main pieces were fairly smooth, with a bit more roughness around the edges of the two large sides where they joined after assembly. Haven't seen any problems with splinters.
