Standard Motor Products TCA21 Switch Review

We've been without 4WD in our 1997 K1500 for three years and thought we had a bigger problem than we had. My wife was looking for something and found this drive. Simple installation directly under the front in the transfer case. Screw in, plug in the cable and BOOM! 4WD on!

Fits our 96 GMC Sierra but the plug in switch was too big so my husband assembled it and used an old switch with it and it works great! He told me to give him 5 stars. It works better than the old one, so he suspects that the old one has been slowly failing over the last few years as this one works much better. Excellent purchase!

It was a perfect fit for my '96 Suburban and was easy to install (5 minutes). Before ordering a new one, check the plug type on your old device as there are 2 different types (knife and pin). For the installation I used a flat head screwdriver to open the clip on the connector and loosen the connector and a crescent wrench to loosen the old actuator and tighten the new one.

I bought this item at the end of January 2019. I only installed it in late autumn, early winter 2019. used it dozens of times during the 2019-2020 winter season. I am not very happy with my purchase of this product and I hope Standard Motor Products will contact me to correct my purchase. PJD by MN

If you replace the truck adapter harness with a slightly newer year plug (eg '96) you can plug it directly into this 4WD activation switch and leave this part intact and it will work, it's just a fork difference. I built a desktop 12V AC/DC converter so I knew my first switch was stuck and not working. This device ran from the converter and then into the truck - no problem. The function of the four-wheel drive system has been restored. I'll see how long it lasts but other than that I recommend…
