Good Little Machinists Level

Used a few times. Seems to be working fine. I tested it upon delivery and it was well leveled! It was good. Supplied in a box for one suitcase.

Pros
  • Cool Product
Cons
  • Fair

Not the Starrett I know.

Spirit level failed to repeat readings and was not calibrated. The assembly was very suspicious. I then bought the Stabila 4 pocket dike and was happy with it.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Last product I buy from Starret.

All adjustment screws are loose by default. So you are now completely worthless. No certificate, apparently no quality control. For the third time, this charm no longer matters to this driver.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Nice and balanced

This level really keeps me straight from port to starboard. I can't say enough good things about it, it gives me a really playful feel trying to read between the lines. Highly recommended for my clean surfaces.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Volume

Like all Starrett devices, it works well

Arrived and calibrated almost perfectly. I love the built in safety/protective sleeve that Starrett builds into the vial tool. In the future I will probably also buy the 6" and 12" models.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • boring packaging

Cannot calibrate

I couldn't calibrate it because I think the design or build quality is poor. The end of the level that should be moved up/down to calibrate is against the metal, making it impossible to move sufficiently. the trunk is brought to the ground and cannot move any further. Unfortunately I'm sending it back.

Pros
  • High support and durability ratings from testers
Cons
  • Good but not great

Poor quality casting

Although the level glass can be accurate, the base doesn't help. look at my photo, the body of the liquid sits on the base, i'm totally disappointed. I had to disassemble it, file it up to adjust the gap. It then needs to be recalibrated, and that's even more of a hassle than you would have to do it from a "quality" place like Starrett. then I found that if I rotate it 180d the bubble is in 2 different positions, WtH? I should have just returned it.

Pros
  • Constant test results
Cons
  • Zero

Came uncalibrated. Revain packaging is pathetic

I have to ask myself if everything I get from Revain is real. Overall everything looks fine, but the underside looks a little suspicious and the bladder isn't big enough to reach the internal control markings. This somewhat defeats the very purpose of using the machine layer. It'll still be more accurate than the hardware store Empire - probably good enough for my needs, but I wouldn't trust it with anything critical. Update: I was able to calibrate this level before using it, but it requires a

Pros
  • Cast iron base for durability
Cons
  • So far so good
