Incredibly slow for a USB 3.1 enclosure

StarTech specs say this is a USB 3.1 Type-C enclosure 36.5 MB/s or I called StarTech customer service at 1-800 and a friendly representative said it's most likely related to my SSD problem. So, without disassembling the phone yet, I removed my SSD and installed it in a Unitek USB-C enclosure and the speed was measured at 520MB/412MB. This was on a 2017 15" MacBook Pro. Solid build quality, excellent compatibility, reliable performance

This durable USB 3.1 enclosure from Startech supports Plug-n-Play on Linux (Fedora 29). It also passes SMART commands to the disk, so you can use the smartctl command to view and verify that the disk is healthy. Performance is excellent as you would expect from USB 3.1. Requires an Allen wrench to tighten the six small screws that hold the case together. They carefully included the tool in the box so you have everything you need. Just add your favorite hard drive or solid state drive.

Extremely durable case with good read/write speeds.

I connected this case to an internal 2TB SanDisk Ultra 3D NAND SSD formatted as ExFAT/GUID. Sequential read/write speeds were around 450 MB/s when tested on macOS and Windows 10. This case feels good in the hand. It's so durable I can comfortably toss it in my bag knowing it won't scratch my other devices because it has no exposed metal, just thick, high-quality plastic and a nice rubber shell. Waterproof is a nice bonus. I like to think of it as a LifeProof case for my SSD. I will update if…
