Compliant but expensive - screws too short for some uses

If you have an RS232 adapter with a nut and need to properly connect it to the device, this is it. I found the screws on this one to be too short - took great pains to finger tighten them so they wouldn't fall out under their own weight + adapter. On my unit (Mikrotik CRS309) it might have been the feet, which can be swapped out if needed, but if the screws on this product were 0.5mm longer it wouldn't be a problem. I don't use flow control. in my app but others say the wiring might be weird…

Pros
  • Same as everything so far
Cons
  • Too long to wait

A must have in every network bag

I keep one of these in my bag, you never know when you might come across a router or switch with a DB9 console port. It works and it's good insurance. (Assuming you also have a DB9 to USB adapter) What I'll bring (1) StarTech DB9 RS232 Serial Null Modem Adapter to F/F(2) StarTech.com 10ft DB9 RS232 Serial Null Modem Cable (3) Pluggable USB-RS - 232 Serial DB9 Adapter

Works Serial Adapters

Works. What else can I say? It is eggshell colored, made of hard plastic and has four thumbscrews. Since it is a 9-pin socket on both sides, it has 18 holes in total. (Reviews must be at least 20 words about the product)

3 Star Product, 5 Star Seller, Just Zero

This is my second review because she or someone removed my first one. This is a regular mid-range adapter. (zero, not advertised) I wasn't blown away by the quality, it was just an average adapter (3 stars). I'm sure the seller sells everything great and would rate their service 5 stars. This is just my opinion on the product itself.

Pros
  • Useful for more than intended purpose
Cons
  • Zero

Connecting to serial ports to test client/server serial port programming

I use this to connect two USB RS-232 cables (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007T27H8 /ref= ox_sc_sfl_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER). That works great. I tested them on Raspberry PI and Windows 7 64-bit.

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Functionally buggy

This is a buggy implementation of a null modem and will not work in many applications. DTR on one side needs to be connected to DCD and DSR on the other side. However, this non-zero modem only connects the DTR to the DSR and connects the two DCD signals together, which is totally useless as no DTE needs to control the DCD, and non-functional as no DTE ever sees the DCD set becomes. In addition, two RI signals are connected to each other. Correctly they should only be disabled at both ends, but…

Pros
  • Regular price
Cons
  • Almost everything included

I will not lie. I bought it on a whim to see how it compares to its Monoprice counterpart and to be honest I'm not impressed. Of course it works in a simple configuration where it is enough to swap the TX/RX pins, but as another reviewer pointed out, pins 1 and 9 are connected directly, not 4 and 6 (opposite side) and correspondingly Cut. Will it matter in most applications? Probably not, but me? I'd rather just "buy once, cry once". Thumbscrews may also fool you, but unfortunately they are…
