Fits snugly on my 46 " Yardman Lawn Tractor

I am having trouble starting the tractor. This is the only detail I could not verify. It was cheap and looked the same. "exactly" the same as the old one. After 30 minutes it was installed, I turned the key and it lit and lit quickly! I was happy with the camper. I can't say how long it will last. over a decade, I hope this one is just as good.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Sturdy and durable

I installed it on my 1951 Ford 8N tractor and it worked very well. I rarely started the tractor, but at the same time I had other work. I had to replace the collector and repair the carburetor, as well as replace the tank shut-off and oil pan. I had to turn the starter many times after installation due to other repairs. Still works very well after months.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

There are differences between the original starter and this replacement

The mounting flange on this replacement is much thinner than my original starter (P/N 693054). My engine is a 35 year old Briggs & Stratton 11 hp. This difference caused the mounting bolts to fall off before the engine was firmly attached. I had to add spacers to make up the difference (about 1/4" vs 3/32"). My guess is that the gear on the starter will be damaged or stripped if this problem is not noticed and fixed upon reassembly.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Big difference Ideal for entry-level

18hp It rotates slowly, which does not create the vacuum needed to run the fuel pump, so there is no fuel. No launch. At least not without starting fluid, which is simply not good for the engine. No longer! Since I put this starter on (it took maybe 10 minutes) it starts up quickly and burns like new. It appears to be the same if not better quality than the one that was taken off and lasted about 6 years. Good price, fast delivery, definitely worth it.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Modern

Skip this option with Metallwerk

The device was easy to install, but as soon as I installed and tried it, the mechanism broke immediately (see photo). It has a cheap vinyl gear on top that meshes with a metal gear on the motor. So any compression or feedback and the vinyl equipment won't carry the load. Another picture shows the original starter (metal gear). If you are looking for a starter for your lawn mower, look carefully at the pictures. MAKE SURE IT HAS A METAL GEAR! Most I've seen only cost a few dollars more than this

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

It worked great.

I was skeptical that the $27 starter would either fit or work, but it did both. I've only used it a few dozen times and it's worked great so far. I'm embarrassed to realize that if you reverse the polarity the starter spins backwards, but the Bendix gear doesn't mesh with the flywheel if you wire it reversed. For a few moments I thought the Bendix was stuck before realizing my mistake. Changed the cable and the starter worked perfectly. I wish I could put one of these starters in each of myโ€ฆ

Cheap repairs Excellent quality

The original Ariens 17.5 Briggs starter motor stalled, this one spun and started me in 15 minutes. Perfect fit, no mods required! Fair price, easy installation, what more could you want. Don't hesitate to pay five times as much for an original Briggs starter if it helps you sleep (it's probably made in the same factory). Be sure to check out Taryl Dactyl's YouTube videos for some good information on these beginners. advice for professionals; If your original starter had a metal gear starterโ€ฆ
