Not the best option for learning oil paints

I'm just learning to paint with oil paints and I thought it would be better to use it for practice than to buy canvases but it doesn't absorb paint at all like Canvas. My teacher recommended buying cheap painting boards instead so the paint lasts longer on the brush than on the canvas. I think I'll save them for multimedia.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Doubtful

Worked for me when I was practicing and dabbling with oils!

I used this 300 series canvas paper for a while to practice oil painting, but now I'm taking art classes so I put the oil aside. The pillow worked for me, but I'm no expert. I will be going back to oil painting classes soon, so I think this canvas paper will be very useful. I thought it was a good price considering the cost of other products and canvas paper.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Comparison Result: Fredrix 3500 > Strathmore 300

I bought this along with Fredrix 3500 series canvas paper for the painting class I am taking. Both were very close to the same price. The Fredrix 3500 canvas pads have a better surface to paint on and don't bleed as much as the Strathmore 300. I've re-ordered a few more Fredrix 3500s to finish off my cool projects. I might reorder them if I had an unimportant project and the Fredrix 3500 wasn't in stock.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall

  • Angry

Do not buy! waste of money!

I had super high hopes for this product when I bought it, but I wasn't satisfied :( The paper isn't thick, and such a cheap quality. It flexes when applying paint, doesn't hold even a little water out.Honestly as a beginner artist I can still use the product to play around with different techniques because I don't take the end product too seriously. But for those who are a bit more experienced this product will be a nightmare ,because the cheap quality paper will ruin the painting completely.I…

Ideal for small studies and miniatures.

These little sheets are great for practice or small study, the texture was a bit confusing at first (I'm used to acrylic on canvas or watercolor paper) but after the first coat it feels like Canvas . The texture is nice and they even out fairly well when wet, minimal warping but can be framed easily. finished last night. I don't usually like square pictures because they don't fit well (landscape composition is more visually appealing IMO) but it was so much fun that I ordered another notebook…

More plastic than paper. Use a different brand.

The point of canvas paper is to have a cheaper surface that imitates a real canvas on which you can work, sketch and even make finished works. Neither can this paper. The plastic surface does not absorb water. So if you want some transparency with diluted paint, your strokes on the surface will turn into drops that take forever to dry. In addition, the usual amount of paint leads to uncontrolled deformation of the surface. Mixing colors on the surface when painting isn't good either, probably…
