I went 16 inches long to extend my hair 4 inches. I was disappointed that the ombre had low lighting in the lighter bottom part. I was hoping it was just light at the ends. But the highlights in the extension matched my hair color so I decided to leave it anyway and when I have time I can lighten and tone the less lit areas.
