Works great: Lifting legs

The shock absorber works great and lowers the tailgate smoothly and slowly. Watched a few YouTube videos before installing and it helped. Make sure to mount the big end of the shock near the tail section (my instructions were wrong). The bolt holding the wire next to the bed was very difficult to remove. The provided star tool did not help. I had to put a pipe wrench on the bolt head to loosen it - not the manufacturer's fault, it was just tight. After that everything was easy.

Great product, installation tools are lacking

So the product itself is fantastic. Easy to install design that works great. My only concern is that the T50 wrench they give you is useless for removing the screw holding the cable in place. I had to buy a T50 3/8 hammer drill to get the screw out. If I had had that from the start, the install would have taken 15 minutes from start to finish including reading the instructions as the install is a bit unclear at first.

Cheap, does the job, but don't rely on instructions.

Instructions for this kit state that screw lock is included. It is not on the listing nor in the package. This product is a cheap knock-off from other higher end brands like DeeZee. The instructions seem to be detailed, but do not make the installation easy. I suggest watching a video of installing this set from another user or via a google search. I was able to install it after a trip to the auto parts store for thread blocking and after watching a 5 minute YouTube video. The manufacturer…

Stop Tailgate Falling

This rear door shock absorber is a door changing device. No more slapping your hand or knee, it's easy to install with the right tools. Small locking pliers, commonly referred to as target grips, do not work as well as a 13mm open-end wrench. The instructions are good except you really need a torx head to loosen the brace on the edge of the bed to add a shock mounting plate. The boss even gave her two thumbs up. I advised her to be careful when opening the back door, but she quickly realized…

Crashing just after install

I installed this on a 2011 Ford F150 XLT. The installation went smoothly, following the instructions that came with it. I also watched a video that confirms the instructions. I've installed hundreds of thousands of these bits on a previous job, both manual and pneumatic pullers, and I can tell you this can be a problem. The instructions say to set it to a specific depth and turn the nut a specific number of times (I think 9). Sounds simple enough, except there are tolerances for tailgate…

Works like a charm on parts

Works great. It lowers the tailgate in 4 seconds. not too fast and not too slow. The instructions could definitely be more detailed. You seem to assume that some details are already understood. In my case this was a safe guess as I have been in the automotive industry for 40 years. But for the average Joe, they really should assume the user doesn't know anything. The spacer nut (or rivet nut, or threaded insert, or backup nut, whatever you call it) needs to be knurled to prevent slippage after…
