If you draw a lot of short lines with chalk, this spool will save you time. I'm a commercial roofer and I cut the boards around the curbs and such and it really speeds up the process.

I bought this for my husband he loved it but it broke quickly. The lead didn't come back after using the product so we had to go back to Home Depot to buy another but different brand.

I like the fact that it retracts automatically and the cord gives a sharp sharp line but the downside is that it's only 23 feet long and retracts itself, if the hook comes off. If you lose the line, you may have to open the case to get the line out, otherwise it's a great line.

It seems to be made of plastic which is easy to break. The time will show. The first lines were really crisp, the self-winding is really great. But after 3 lines the chalk started flying out of the nozzle in all directions. Now I need to unwrap it from the surface I want to place the layout on. That's a little disappointing. This negates the benefit of one-handed operation.
