I am very picky when it comes to my kitchen utensils and have been looking for a trivet or trivet for months. I finally saw them and I liked them! I have purchased eight or ten of these coasters to date and although I have occasionally used them as hot coasters at dinner I have bought many. use like wipes. They are large enough for the round center of a standard dinner plate or bowl to protect my bar's granite countertop and my breakfast table's wood top after the dish comes hot from the microwave. They don't need constant smoothing because they slip out of place like my regular napkins because they stick to the surface they're sitting on
