Description of Tamahagane San SN 1116H Nakiri Vegetable

6-inch Usuba vegetable knife blends modern construction techniques with Japanese knifemaking traditions. Exceptionally sharp edge thanks to thin VG5 steel core sandwiched between layers of SUS410 steel for stain resistance. Balanced with a stainless steel weight that attaches to the tang. Distinctive, comfortable handle made of rich, dark laminated wood. Hand wash only; limited lifetime warranty; made in Japan.

Blade quickly loses sharpness

As a home chef with experience in knife sharpening, I was disappointed with this product. As my tests showed the blade quickly lost its sharpness after just a few uses. While the handle was comfortable to hold, the lack of longevity in the blade's sharpness is a major drawback. I would not recommend this product for serious home and kitchen use..

Pros
  • Comfortable handle
Cons
  • Quickly loses sharpness

NE Usuba in Cutlery & Knife Accessories

This is NOT Usuba. This is Nakiri. The box says Nakiri, it's obviously double beveled, and the accompanying promotional leaflet shows Tamahagane's entire line of knives, and they do NOT make Usuba-Bocha. Buy in person from a reputable dealer where you can try the blade. I will never buy a high quality Revain knife again as the subtle differences and customer service was a nightmare. If I buy a hand-forged, high-carbon, several-hundred-dollar knife, it will never be from Revain; I got my first…
