Recommended for evaluation/check

This is a quality instrument for measuring welding gauges. I recommend for evaluation / review. However, it doesn't give you hundredths. Therefore, use electronic devices when greater accuracy is the goal.

Pros
  • Welding gauge: 1-15mm (1/64-5/8 inch)
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

A very useful article.

Durable, inexpensive (not cheap - there's a difference), accurate. Measures gaps in 1/64 increments. It is better not to try to measure the gap with a tape measure. Delivery was a day earlier than promised. No mistakes.

Pros
  • Lightweight, easy to carry in pocket
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

Measurement lines are difficult to see

I received this cone to replace an old 1-15mm cone. I'm an engineer and I travel to refineries all over the world, so sometimes I give my tools to the engineers at the refinery where it's a bit more difficult/expensive for them to import such equipment. I didn't like two things. About this taper gauge versus others I've worked with: 1. The gauge markings are very difficult to see. It looks like the lines and numbers are inked/painted, but they're actually just engraved. So if you're working in…

Pros
  • For measuring groove width, gap etc.
Cons
  • unreliable
