🔧 TEKTON 4 Inch Drill Press 53994: Efficient and Precise Power Drilling Solution Review

It may seem strange but I use this vise for a drill as a vise. I removed the steel jaw inserts and made a set of hardwood inserts to avoid damaging the wood. I can safely hold up to a 2 x 4, and I'm building a vise mount. The vise itself is solid, with a good Acme screw for smooth tightening. For the money you really can't beat it.

If I bought it from Harbor Freight for $10 it would be worth it. Unfortunately, the poor quality of these vises makes them unassuming and definitely not worth the price. I am returning this product. It ties every inch of the way as the vise closes. The screw drive screw sits very loosely in the clamping plate and slightly off-centre; hence it binds each turn on closing. I switched to a Yost drill vise. The quality stands head and shoulders over those crappy Tekton vises.

It does exactly what I expected, holds the material in place while I use the drill. It all comes out pretty blurry, to the point where I had to erase some of it, but it doesn't matter. I've been drilling through old hard drives to test this and these vises added a bit of weight but also allowed me to drill with more confidence. It also spins easily, but this is probably where I need to make sure it stays lubricated. All in all a great addition to my drill press and just what I needed.
