Description of ๐Ÿ’พ Terramaster D5-300C USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type C 5-Bay RAID Enclosure - RAID 0/1/Single Support, Exclusive 2+3 RAID Mode, Diskless Hard Drive RAID Storage

5-bay RAID storage, compatible with 2.5"/3.5" SATA hard drive or SSD, supports 18TB hard drive, total capacity up to 90TB. (Note: users need to purchase their own hard drives. These are not included. Unique 2+3 RAID mode: hard drive #1 & #2 can be configured as RAID 0, RAID 1 or Single disk. The remaining drives #3-5 work as single, independent drives. Adopts real SUPERSPEED USB3.1 (Gen1) Type-C interface, the read/write speed is up to 410MB/s (SSD in RAID 0). Compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux computers, and also works with the computers possessing the Thunderbolt 3 interface. This is a DAS, NOT a NAS. D5-300C adopts aluminum enclosure and low-noise fan, which is firm and reliable, of good heat dissipation, and low noise.

Ideal as a backup device, misleading description

Actually overpriced. You can expect 4Gbps transfer speed instead of 7.2Gbps or 10Gbps. If it works as advertised, you'd happily skip the included tools and instead treat yourself to a decent power supply. If you're expecting something on par with a Thunderbolt RAID enclosure, look elsewhere. The rugged aluminum chassis amplifies fan noise and drive and is not suitable for noise-sensitive work environments Pros: Ready to work with Linux , MacOS X and WindowsClear instructionsEasy to set upLots ofโ€ฆ

Cons
  • There are new competitors.

Ideal as a backup device, misleading description

The price is too high for what we actually have. You can expect 4 Gbps instead of 7.2 Gbps or 10 Gbps if everything worked as described. I wish they would skip the included tools and spend the money on a decent power adapter instead. If you expect something at Thunderbolt RAID level, look elsewhere. While the aluminum chassis is quite durable, it increases fan and drive noise and is not suitable for noise-sensitive work environments. Pros: Works out of the box with Linux, MacOS X, and Windowsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • . Compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux computers and also works with Thunderbolt 3 computers. This is a DAS, not a NAS.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

I checked three unnamed bays (Belkin and others) for attached USB/ESATA drives. They all stopped working. This is my fourth (? maybe fifth). A multi-bay card typically has a card with drive connectors as a riser on the back of the device - the drive is inserted and connected to the card. There is a fan behind the circuit board. Yes, where all flow is blocked by the board. This, of course, leads to possible failure due to overheating. This removes this nonsense. No giant circuit board on theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Unique RAID 2+3 mode: Disk #1 and #2 can be configured as RAID 0, RAID 1 or single drive. The remaining disks #3-5 operate as single independent disks.
Cons
  • Not sure

Under no circumstances should you entrust your data to this DAS.

I have been using a Dell R610 as a file server for a long time and wanted something low power, quieter, cheaper etc. I got this one 5 bay Saw the unit and with its unique RAID configuration I thought it would be perfect as I only need redundancy for some of my data.It comes with a screwdriver to mount the drive, extra rubber feet and labels.I was glad to find it at the extras but that's where the luck stops, despite the fact that the block itself is metal, the plastic front and back are aโ€ฆ
