Ideal pre-filter and frying suction protection!

Not only did it work great as a pre-filter, it also kept my fries out of the filter. One of them was enough for two of my power filters. Modification needed... With my Penguin 350 I had to make cuts on the inside to adjust the shape of the filter mesh and with the Whisper 3 filter I had to zip the pre-filter to the mesh as it was too loose. I also had to cut the back of the pre-filter so it was flat and there was space between the power filter downpipe and the glass. Great price and versatile.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Secret

Huge piece that I cut in half for my needs, great purchase.

It's really huge I cut it in half and since it's open on both sides I used a latex glove on the underside of the canister filter inlet adapter to prevent the water from just coming in from the side invades, catches all kinds of food, great for a shrimp party. I see them constantly feeding on this foam, its very large holes are quite large for non-live carrier fry and of course shrimp. Just looking at it, I could tell that its smallest filter grain is 1mm, but it's thick enough to fully capture…

Fits Sponge Filter Aquarium Co-op!

I need a medium sized sponge filter replacement sponge (20 gallon recommendation) from Aquarium Co-op. Unfortunately I bleached my sponge after a suspected TB/fish mycobacteria outbreak and the bleach has rendered the sponge sticky and unusable. Aquarium Coop doesn't sell the sponges separately from the entire filter set, but my other plastic parts were fine, so I went in search of a suitable replacement. It's about 2 inches too big, but I was able to easily trim it with scissors and it fit…

Big! Cut length to fill hole AC 110

This is the best aquarium investment I've ever made to reduce the time I spend with stupid spent fishing. I have an Aqua Clear 110 filter and it works great as it reduces the need to change filter threads and clog. I cut the length about 1.5 inches to use to fill the center hole at the bottom. I just cut it slightly larger than the hole and stuffed it and it stays perfect. When I clean it, I use a large, fine-mesh petsmart strainer ($6!) to close it before removing it. It keeps him from…

Cut to size for use as an aquarium pre-filter

I received this pre-filter to cut and use in my 5.5 gallon top fin freshwater aquarium. We recently had an issue with 2 neon tetras and a ghost shrimp getting stuck in the feeder. My Top Fin tank doesn't have an adjustable water flow regulator and it has enough power to occasionally suck up pebbles. Searching the web, there have been many suggestions of using foam, mesh, or even tights around the air intake. Some people have suggested using a pond pre-filter as it doesn't restrict flow at all…

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Minor issues

I used it as a pre-filter with an external filter like many others here. I think my experience is different because I've used different inlet pre-filters. I bought this because the guppies were breeding and could suck the fry in and not for extra filtration so I like that it was extra but to my surprise I noticed my tank is a lot cleaner and for under $5 this was a great quick fix my future roast. However, since the sponge is too rough, it is quite difficult for them to clean the sponge when it

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Very expensive
